What Do Reflected and Thermal Spectra Reveal?

How can one planet carry a reflected copy of its star and a separate spectrum produced by its own temperature?

Separate illumination, phase, albedo, temperature, and wavelength before interpreting planetary light.

An exoplanet has a bright reflected crescent on its star-facing side and a deep red thermal glow on its dark hemisphere.
Vastward artistic reconstruction. White-gold and red light separate the two origins conceptually; colours are not calibrated measurements.
